Our Beliefs

Our Beliefs

We are Southern Baptists.  We have translated the Baptist Faith and Message into Cowboy lingo so you can understand it a little better.

The Scriptures
The Holy Bible was written by ordinary men who were inspired by God to write it all down. In it, God showed who He was. It’s got the “how to get-her-done’s” in it because God knew we needed that. It clearly explains how we got in the fix we’re in and how we get out of that mess.  In other words, how to get saved. The Bible is pure truth and you can count on it from cover to cover.

Some people may say there are other Gods, but there ain't. There's only One God.  Now this is a little hard to understand, but our one God comes in three forms, the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit, each with a different job, but always working as a good team, pulling in the same direction.

God the Father
The Heavenly Father keeps close tabs on His universe and the folks He made.  And nothin has happened in this old world that he didn’t know was goin' to happen and even planned fer. …God is a good Pa to all his people who become His kids through faith in Jesus.

God the Son
Jesus has always been the Son of God. When he came to earth as a little baby, his Ma, Mary, was a virgin, but the Holy Spirit caused her to have a baby anyway.  In all of human history, Jesus was the only person who ever obeyed all of God’s laws perfectly, so when he died on that old rugged cross, he was the only one who could perfectly pay for all of our sins.

God the Holy Spirit
The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of God. (He's not a Ghost). He likes to tell about Jesus. He shows us how sinful we are. He shows us what the right thing to do looks like, and He takes us to the woodshed when we have it comin'. …He teaches us heavenly things and gives us the “want-to” to serve Him when we go to church and worship Him.  He makes us want to bring friends and family to Him as well and to help our neighbors when things are tough.

Man was made by God’s own hand and God made us look like Himself in many ways. In fact, God thought we were His best work. …But old Adam and Eve messed things up for all of us when they did what God warned them not to do in the Garden of Eden. Now we have inherited from them that notion to do wrong things ourselves… But even at that, Jesus and the Father loved us enough that Jesus was willing to die to pay for our sins. That makes men and women, boys and girls pretty special, don't ya think?.

The Bible says, “Whosoever will can be saved”.  That’s you and me if we believe Jesus was God’s Son and that He died on the cross to pay for our sins. If you believe this, the Bible says you are saved, clear to the bone, and nobody can snatch you out of God’s hand. Hey, that’s very good news! Do you believe in Jesus?  Have you told God in a prayer that you do?  You can pray right now if you want to and tell Him you believe. Go ahead.  We’ll wait.

God's Purpose of Grace
The Bible talks about election and the elect.  It is talking about those who believe in Jesus and are saved.  Someone might ask, “What if I am not one of the elect?”  Let me ask you this, Partner, “Do you want to be saved?”  If you answered yes, then the chances are good that you are one of the elect. For the truth is that those who aren’t of the elect don’t even give a hoot that they are lost.  And if God saves you, you cain't lose your salvation.  Salvation is somethin' He will never take back from you, even if you mess up after you're saved.

The Church
The church is not a building with a steeple  up on a hill.  It is not even a horse arena where a Cowboy group meets. …The Church is the people who have believed in Jesus and are saved.  The Bible calls the church a body. Some of us are an eye, some an ear and some a big toe.  All are important to the body.  Have you ever stubbed your big toe?  When any part hurts, the whole body hurts. That’s the church and Jesus is the head of that body. And the church includes even our grandparents and great grandparents that may have passed on to glory, but who believed in Jesus.  All are still alive and in God’s safe keeping.

Baptism & the Lord's Supper
Christian baptism is getting dunked clear under in a body of water (in a cowboy church we use a watering trough). …Baptism shows you are now one with Jesus. When He died, was buried and then was raised to life, you were there with Him, since you are now one with Him.

The Lord's Supper is a special time of eating bread and drinking grape juice.  Jesus showed his disciples how to do this to remember Him by when they were all together. The broken bread symbolizes His broken body and the juice His blood, all given for us.

Evangelism & Missions
Since we know that only when people hear about Jesus can they have a chance to believe in Him, we have the job to get that great "Good News" out to all the world, startin' with our neighbors across the back fence or down at the local cafe.  Jesus said, “Go to the Highways and Hedges and get them.”  He means we need to beat the bushes, round ‘em up and bring ‘em in to his heavenly corral.

God planned the perfect way a family should function. There’s one man with his one wife.  No man with another man and no woman with another woman. And every boy and girl should have a mom and dad that loves them and raises them as a family together. Kids are special to the Lord. Now we know in this imperfect world, that the family sometimes gets messed up.  But God is big enough to handle it and He still loves us.  But His perfect design was one man and one women raisen their kids together.  Now, just because some men and some women say they don’t like that idea, well, get over it.  Take it up with Almighty God. This family design has worked for thousands of years and I don’t think God plans to fix what ain’t broke.

Marriage Sexuality and Famil (In More Detail)

We believe that the term 'marriage' has only one meaning and that is marriage sanctioned by God which joins one man and one woman in a single, exclusive union, as delineated in Scripture.

We believe that God intends sexual intimacy to only occur between a man and a woman who are married to each other. We believe that God has commanded that no intimate sexual activity be engaged in outside of a marriage between a man and a woman.

We believe that any form of sexual immorality is sinful and offensive to God.

We believe that in order to preserve the function and integrity of the church as the local Body of Christ, and to provide a biblical role model to the church members and the community, it is imperative that all persons employed by the church in any capacity, or who serve as volunteers, should abide by and agree to this Statement on Marriage and Sexuality and conduct themselves accordingly.

We believe that God offers redemption and restoration to all who confess and forsake their sin, seeking His mercy and forgiveness through Jesus Christ.

We believe that every person must be afforded compassion, love, kindness, respect, and dignity. Hateful and harassing behavior or attitudes directed toward any individual are to be repudiated and are not in accord with scripture nor the doctrines of the church."
