Cowboy Church Round-Up Weekly Newsletter

Howdy Christian Cowpokes,

We  wanted to get the” Round-Up” out a little early this week so our church family could be sure to know about the passing of Ray Dean Spencer Sr. (Father of Ray Spencer and Father-in-law to Barb). He went home to be with his Lord on Tuesday morning, October 17th.  Ray Dean was 89. His funeral will be Tonight, Thursday, October 19th at 6 pm at the Liberty Baptist Church located at 7461 N. Brown Station Road, Columbia, MO. (Between Columbia and Hallsville.) Visitation will be this same evening from 5 to 6 pm, the hour preceding the funeral, there at Liberty Baptist Church. Since Ray Dean loved to hunt, memorials will go to the NRA.

1.      The Ladies in our cowboy church are enjoying their Ladies’ Bible Study and the fellowship they are having at the Cowboy Church!  Their next session will be Wednesday, October 25th at 6 pm at the cowboy church.  All ladies are welcome to join in with this great Beth Moore study of 2 Timothy!

2.      We contacted Ron Ray recently. Ron is a member of the fine Christian country band, “The Second Time Around”.  They played for us once this past summer and everyone said we need to invite them back.  Ron said they enjoyed playing for us and that they would enjoy playing for us again. Hopefully we can have them sometime soon. Watch for the announcement and plan now to be there to hear their excellent music!

3.      And may I take the time here to say thanks to the excellent musicians we already have at the Gateway to the High Country Cowboy Church.  These guys are awesome and we appreciate so much their sharing their time and musical talent with us, and for the Lord. On Monday nights we have Wayne Walker, Jerry and Charlotte Perry, Peter Smith and Andrew Adams. Then, Steve Barker joins Wayne on Sunday mornings to lead our music at those services! We are very fortunate to have them all and we thank them sincerely!

4.      We will serve the Lord’s Supper at the Cowboy Church on Sunday morning, October 29th and Monday night, October 30th.  Come with your hearts prepared for these sacred services.

5.      We plan to have our next Wrangler (Church Leadership) Meeting on Tuesday, November 7th at 6:30 pm at Bandanas BBQ on Clark Street in Columbia.  We will be discussing plans for Thanksgiving and Christmas at the Cowboy Church. We will also talk about ideas for an expansion to the cowboy church building, which could include a new fellowship hall, a kitchen, a basement (which would serve as classrooms and a storm shelter), and yes –real bathrooms!!! One for cowgirls and one for cowboys!

6.      The next meeting of the Heartland Chapter of the Back Country Horsemen will be Tuesday, November 14th at the Golden Corral on Clark Lane in Columbia.  Those who want to eat should come at 5:30 pm.  The meeting will start at 6:30 pm. Robert Phillips is the Trail Master (Leader).

7.      Finally, I want to remind everyone again how exciting and productive has been our recent endeavor, over just this past year, to discover God’s Plan for the Gateway to the High Country Cowboy Church and to put that plan it into action.  We have encouraged our church members to put their spiritual gifts, talents and abilities into action for the Lord, and wow! Have we ever seen some exciting results! From our resulting “Action Plan” have come the following accomplishments in the Cowboy Church Family:

(1)   The  Spring Trail Ride, (2) the wiring of the new lights and outlets in the cowboy church building, (3) the creation of our shade and rest area by the arena, (4) Movie Night at the Cowboy Church, (5) participation with the stagecoach and horseback riders in three community parades, (6) our First Annual Horse Fun Show, (7) the Wild West Show and Chuck Wagon Dinner, (8) the Annual Peep Shoot, (9) the Chrome Christ and Cowboys Motorcycle Rally and Ride, (10) the new sign on the building, (11) the installation of our new heating and cooling system, (12) a new water hydrant on the grounds, (13) the new emphasis on being “Kid-Friendly” at the church, which included the building of Fort Apostle in our building and the expansion of our children’s program we call “Cow Town” (14) and our first-ever Vacation Bible School “Saddle Ridge Ranch”. (15) We have begun a new Ladies’ Bible Study, (16) we have volunteers to mow the church grounds, (17) volunteers to care for the horse arena, (18) volunteers to help with our fellowship meals, (19) new cowboy church T- shirts ordered (three times now!), (20) partnering with the Heartland Chapter of the Back Country Horsemen, (21) helping with the “Saddle-Up for St. Jude’s Trail Ride”, (22) institution of our “One Call” Telephone Prayer Chain (23) and the formation of our new Church Safety and Security Team.  And of course, our worship services every Sunday morning and Monday night!

Whew! We praise God, and all of you who have been Point Riders on all these endeavors and all of you that have jumped right in to help. Our hope and prayer has been, throughout all of these activities and actions, that we might draw more people in to hear the Good News of Jesus Christ and help them find the richness of eternal life through Him. The sign on the side of our kid’s fort, Fort Apostle, says it all, “Jesus Saves”.  We are just spreading that Good News – Cowboy-Style!

If you have not been to the Cowboy Church lately, we are missing you!  Come join us in our work to glorify our Heavenly Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. There is still plenty to be done and many that still need to hear. We will see you Sundays at 11 am and/or Mondays at 7 pm. Invite your neighbors, family and friends!

Please keep Ray and Barb Spencer in your prayers. They have done so much for us and the cowboy church! We who knew Ray Dean Spencer Sr. will all miss him greatly.

God Bless and Happy Trails,
