Howdy Pardner,

Someone said if we prepared as hard for the Second Coming of Jesus Christ as we have been preparing for the Eclipse, we might actually be ready for the real, “Truly Great Event!”

My understanding is that the eclipse will begin about 11:30 am this Monday, August 21st and be in “Totality” at about 1:14 pm, and be in Totality for about 2 and a half minutes. I hope you have found your place to view it with your “approved” eclipse viewing safe glasses. MaryAnn and I will watch it from our ranch east of Mexico, Missouri. It will be interesting to see what the horses, dogs and wildlife do when “the day turns to night” for those few minutes.

It is a miracle of God! The Sun is 400 miles farther from the earth than the moon is, and the Sun is 400 times bigger than the moon, and yet the moon will pass perfectly between the earth and the sun and perfectly blot out the Sun, except for its corona.  Is all this perfection a sign from God to us?  I think so.  I believe God is telling us by this, and so many other ways, that Jesus is at the door. Are you ready for the real Truly Great Event of His Second Coming?

(A Heads-Up!  There may be a bunch of traffic on Hwy 63 heading north when you come to cowboy church Monday evening.  People from the North Country will be heading home after viewing the eclipse in Central Missouri.  Make sure you give plenty of notice to the cars behind you as you get into that left passing lane, ready to slow and turn onto Hwy B at the cowboy church.  Be safe at that high-speed intersection! If you cannot safely get over at the Hwy B left turn, you can try to use the “J -Turn” just up the road a quarter mile.)

1.      We will be having the Lord’s Supper on Sunday August 27th and on Monday evening August 28th during our worship services.  Please prepare your hearts for that sacred church ordinance.

2.      Two up-coming Parades the Spencer’s Stagecoach and the Binney’s horses will participate in, to represent the Gateway to the High Country Cowboy Church, will be in Harrisburg September 9 (9:30 AM line-up), and in Hallsville September 30 (8:30 AM line-up). Other Cowboy Church riders, with their horses, and folks walking and giving out GttHCCC literature are welcome!

3.      Dorothy Mcmahan reports that the second T-shirt order shirts are here and they will be available for pick-up starting this coming Monday night.  If you did not get your order in, we will have some available for purchase in various sizes and colors for adults and children. All the shirts will be $10 each. Checks for the shirts may be made out to Gateway Cowboy Church.

4.      Thanks as always to you, our regular attendees and members, for your faithful attendance and regular giving and tithing to your Cowboy Church.

5.      Linda Sharp continues to recruit church folks to be on a New Hospitality Committee, to help with the drinks and other Fellowship-Time needs for both Sundays and Mondays. A sign-up sheet is at the church.  Talk to Linda about the details.

6.       The Ladies’ Bible Study met at the cowboy church with Louise Marble this past Wednesday.  A Survey Sheet will be available this Sunday and Monday (for interested ladies) to decide when and where our ladies will meet.   The plan will be to have the first Bible Study group the week of September 11th.    If you are interested, talk to Louise at  church.

7.      Steve Barker has been working on our sign board for our building’s south-facing gable. This Cowboy Church sign will be a large 12’ x 6’ sign which will be easy to read, especially from Hwy B.  I will be painting the sign, which will include the church’s name, “Gateway to the High Country Cowboy Church” and also the cowboy church logo of the praying cowboy with his horse kneeling at the cross. We hope to have it up by mid-September if all goes well!

8.       If you would be interested in presenting a 10 minute Horse Clinic in the Cowboy Church Arena on some equine-related subject this fall, just before our Sunday or Monday worship services, let me, Pastor Dale, know.  We will get you scheduled and invite the whole church family to attend. We know we have a great variety of horse expertise in our church family and we want to give you a chance to share your expertise for all to learn from.

9.       The “18th Annual Saddle-Up for St. Jude’s (Children’s Hospital) Trail Rided” will be Saturday, September 16th at David and Brenda Reed’s Farm and onto the Rudolph Bennitt Conservation Area near Higbee, MO.  Ride-out time for all riders is 10 AM. A Carry-In Dinner at 5 PM and Auction will follow the trail ride. The meat for the dinner is provided.  If you want to donate to this good cause, talk to Clark Dalton.

10.   We are planning our, “First Annual Fun Show” at the Cowboy Church on Saturday, September 23, 2017 in our Cowboy Church Arena.  MaryAnn Larison, Jacque Barker, and  Becky Ankelman  are the Point Riders (Organizers) for this event.  Plan now to participate or come watch these fun horse and rider contests.  There will be contests for every age and experience level.  Awards will be given!

11.  Volunteers to mow (with your own mowers) the Cowboy Church property are welcomed! Let me know if you would be willing to mow!  Wayne and Cathy Walker plan to mow it this weekend.  We appreciate all the people that have mowed the grounds for us through the summer.

12.  The next meeting of the Heartland Chapter of the Back Country Horsemen will be at 6:30 PM at the Gateway to the High Country Cowboy Church building on Thursday, August 24th at 6:30 PM.  Robert Phillips is the Trail Master and has the details.

13.  David Johnson and I plan to pin down a date and time for our Church Safety and Security Team to meet and we will let those of you who want to be involved know when that will be.  We could use a few more men and women that might want to be involved, so let David or me know if you are interested.

14.  Finally, mark your calendars for our next, “Movie Night at the Cowboy Church!”  It will be Friday night, August 25th at 8 PM.  The movie we will see will be “Sully”, with Tom Hanks, in the story about the pilot, Sully Sullenberger, that landed the airline jet on the Hudson River in New York with none of the 155 lives aboard being lost. Great movie! The movie, popcorn and drinks are all free! Bring friends and family!

We will see you this Sunday and/or Monday at the Gateway to the High Country Cowboy Church!

God Bless and Happy Trails,

Pastor Dale and MaryAnn Larison c}:-{
